The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University Presents “Angels in America:  Part One:  Millennium Approaches”

Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents the powerfully moving play, “Angels in America:  Part One: Millennium Approaches,” written by Tony Kushner, February 20–24, and February 27–March 2, 2008. The production will be presented in the Emerson Studio Theatre in the lower level of the Loretto-Hilton Center, 130 Edgar Road. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., except Sundays, which will have 2 p.m. matinees only. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for senior adults and students. For ticket reservations, call the Fine Arts Hotline at 968-7128.

“Angels in America” takes the audience through the early stages of the AIDS epidemic as experienced by two couples – one gay and one straight – living in New York City in the mid 80s.

The gay couple, Prior Walter and Louis Ironson, is dealing with Prior’s AIDS diagnosis, which is devastating the relationship. The straight couple is Joe Pitt, a Mormon lawyer, and his emotionally unstable wife, Harper, who doesn’t know that her husband is struggling with his feelings of homosexuality.

Their journey intertwines through chance meetings, hallucinations and through Roy Cohn, a gay, Jewish lawyer who would rather die than admit to either and also falls victim to AIDS.

“Angels in America” is a thought-provoking play about the power of change.
