Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts presents the dark comedy, “The Cripple of Inishmaan,” written by Martin McDonagh, March 26 - 30, and April 2 - 6, 2008. The production will be located at the Stage III Theatre located in Webster Hall, 470 E. Lockwood. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., except Sundays, which will have 2 p.m. matinees only. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for senior adults and students. For ticket reservations, call the Fine Arts Hotline at 968-7128.

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, “The Cripple Of Inishmaan” is a strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. The mundane existence of the island community of Inishmaan is suddenly jarred into awakening when a Hollywood filmmaker visits the a neighboring island to film “Man of Aran.” A local boy, Billy Claven, or “Cripple Billy” as he is called by the unthinking townsfolk, sees this as an opportunity to get away from the island residents and his two aged aunts, who constantly point out his physical deformities. Heartbreak and laughter are on tap for this Irish play filled with colorful, but familiar characters.
