2007 Photo Imaging Education Association’s Annual Competition Exhibit at Webster’s May Photography Gallery
What/Who:
The 2007 Photo Imaging Education Association’s (PIEA) Annual Competition Exhibit is presented at Webster’s May Photography Gallery. Students compete by age group: 9th grade and below and high school and university levels. PIEA is a special membership section of the Photo Marketing Association, the world's largest photo industry organization. PIEA is an international organization whose members are working professionals dedicated to creating resources to inform, support and and build stronger relationships with the photo industry.

Opening reception Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, 5–7 p.m.
Gallery talk with Jay Dickman, Pulitzer-prize winning National Geographic photographer and judge of the PIEA competition. Dickman will provide insight into how the winners were selected and describe his background as a professional photographer.
Friday, Dec. 7, 2 p.m., Jay Dickman will present an overview of his work in Sverdrup Building, Room 101
Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday;
Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

Jay Dickman
A Pulitzer-Prize winning photographer and a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine (more than twenty five assignments), Jay Dickman's work has appeared in 15 of the high profile “A Day in the Life of . . . “ series. His work also has won several awards in the World Press International Competition, including the "Golden Eye" award, and the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Distinguished Service in Journalism.
Dickman's client list ranges from EDS to Nike, Marlboro to the NFL. Publications include: National Geographic, LIFE, Conde Nast Traveler, Time, Fortune, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, GEO, Stern, and American Way Etc. Corporate clients include EDS Corporation, Dell Computers, Dresser Industries, Hewlett Packard, Quaker, CH2M Hill, The Polk Company and Sun MicroSystems.
Dickman has worked in the photojournalism field for over 30 years, covering events as diverse as the war in El Salvador to the Olympics, national political conventions to six Super Bowls, the 40th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima to photographing Shirley Maclaine. He's spent three months living in a stone-age village in Papua New Guinea, spent a week under the Arctic ice in a nuclear attack sub (both these for National Geographic), sank on a boat on the Amazon and flew around the world for a corporate shoot for EDS Corporation.
Amongst an elite group of photographers, as an "Olympus Visionary", and a Lexar "Elite Photographer" Jay was featured in a national TV ad campaign for American Express.
Dickman hosts his own series of digital photography workshops in locations such as Auvillar, France, Oban, Scotland and Chesapeake Bay. Maryland. He has worked as a faculty member for Maine Photographic Workshops, Photography at the Summit, American Photo Mentor Series Workshops and has spoken at MacWorld.
